Godswill Oyor – Ogo Ft. Daniel Ojo

Glory is a word Nigerians say with their whole chest, and places it at the centre of Ogo, featuring .

In Igbo and Yoruba, the word is tied to glory, honour and splendour. It is what people say when they want to give credit to God, and it shows up in praise chants, church choruses and family blessings. A title that short is easy to sing, easy to shout and easy to remember, which is exactly why it works in worship.

What I find interesting is how many settings it fits. At a thanksgiving, glory is something you give back after good news. At a funeral, it is a way of honouring a life. At a wedding, it fills the room when the couple walks in. The same word can hold sorrow, joy and pride, depending on the voice.

I will not describe the sound, since I cannot confirm it, but a one word title in a mother tongue usually points toward a chorus that a crowd can take up quickly. When a friend asks if you have played Ogo, you can almost guess how loudly they plan to sing it.

Anyone who enjoys worship in a language they grew up with will see themselves here. It suits Sunday services, thanksgiving parties and bright mornings.
