Henrisoul – Then & Now African Praise Medley

The title tells you the plan before anything plays. Then points to the older praise songs many of us grew up singing, the choruses that filled church halls, crusade grounds and Sunday school classes. Now points to the present, where the same worship moves through new voices and new arrangements. A medley joins them together, so the listener is walked from one era of praise to the next without a break.

Nigerians know how much those old choruses mean. Many people can sing a line from childhood the moment they hear the first few words, even if they have not set foot in a church in years. Mothers hum them in the kitchen, elders start them at funerals, and a whole room will join in without anybody giving instruction. A medley taps into that shared memory, which is why this format is so loved at thanksgiving services and end of year programmes.

The word African in the title also does some work. It suggests praise that travels across languages and countries, from Yoruba and Igbo choruses to Zulu and Swahili ones, all under one roof. I will not pretend to describe the exact songs, languages or arrangement I cannot confirm, but a medley with that name points toward a record meant for singing along, with familiar lines coming in and the congregation answering.

There is a small beauty in the idea of joining then and now. It says the faith that carried earlier generations is the same one carrying us today. By the time a friend asks you to send Then & Now African Praise Medley for their Sunday morning, you will probably know they want something that feels like home.

Anyone who misses the sound of a full congregation, or loves to sing the old choruses with new energy, will see themselves in the idea. It suits church services, family devotion, long drives and quiet mornings when gratitude comes in the form of a song you already know by heart.
