Prince Gozie Okeke – My Gift

The name is Igbo, and the title is simple English, so the pairing already hints at a worship setting that many Nigerians will recognise. A gift in the language of faith usually means something given freely, whether it is a talent, a blessing, a child, a breakthrough or simply another morning to wake up in good health.

That is what makes the idea so easy to relate to. Think about the testimonies we hear on Sundays, where somebody stands up to thank God for a job, a safe journey or a family member who recovered. Nobody there is boasting. They are pointing at something they believe they did not earn, and the humility in that is a large part of its beauty.

There is also a second reading that I like. A gift can be what a person offers back, such as a voice, a song or a service given to others. I will not pretend to describe production details I cannot confirm, but a title like this suggests a record of thanksgiving and surrender, the kind made for quiet singing along.

The possessive in the wording matters too. It is not just a gift, it is mine, which makes the song personal. By the time a friend asks you to send My Gift for their morning devotion, you will probably know what season of life they are thanking God for.

Anyone who has been grateful for something small, or amazed by something unexpected, will see themselves in the idea. It suits Sunday mornings, prayer times and those private moments when thanks are all you have to say.
