NMIXX – 긴 소원 (Birthday Wish)
There is a quiet kind of promise in the title of this one from NMIXX, a Strange Muse track called 긴 소원 (Birthday Wish). It sounds like something whispered over a cake.
The Korean part translates to something like “long wish”, and that small detail is worth pausing on. Most birthday wishes are short and made in a hurry, with the candles dripping and everybody watching. A long wish is different. It suggests something you have carried for months, maybe years, and never said out loud to anyone.
Anybody who has sat through a birthday with a heavy heart will understand that. You smile for the photos, you blow out the candles, and inside you are asking for one particular thing to finally happen. It could be love, peace, a better year, or just for somebody to come home. The idea behind 긴 소원 (Birthday Wish) is relatable because almost everyone has made a wish they were afraid to repeat.
NMIXX are a JYP Entertainment girl group, and Strange Muse is the project this song sits on. I will not pretend to describe the arrangement note by note, but the title alone sets a tender, personal tone that feels different from the louder, high-energy image many people attach to K-pop.
It is the kind of record that makes sense late at night, when the party is over and the house has gone quiet. Some wishes only feel honest at that hour, when nobody is clapping and you finally have time to think about what you really want.
