King Wazza – Umoya Wam Ft. Omogee’De Djy & Zambezi Shandu
Spirit is a big word to build a song around, and King Wazza does exactly that on Umoya Wam, featuring Omogee’De Djy and Zambezi Shandu from the House of Elements album.
Umoya means spirit, breath or wind in Zulu, and wam is the possessive, so the title lands somewhere close to my spirit. It is a heavy idea, yet people use it in everyday talk. When a person says their spirit is tired, nobody needs a long explanation. When it is lifted, you can see it on their face.
There is a nice contrast in having only two guests on a record with such a personal title. Compared with the crowded credits on other songs from the same project, this one feels closer, like a conversation in a quiet corner rather than a party. Omogee’De Djy and Zambezi Shandu share the space with King Wazza, and the smaller team suits the subject.
Many of us have days when the spirit needs feeding before anything else works, whether through prayer, a long walk or simply turning up the volume. Umoya Wam sounds like it belongs to those moments, the hour when you want something to meet you where you are.
