Marnz Malone – You Deserve (Outro)

Ending an album with words of reassurance can leave a different kind of impression, and does that with You Deserve (Outro), the final track on I Wish I Could Sing.

The title speaks directly to the listener, even without saying exactly what the person deserves. It could be love, peace, success, forgiveness, a better life or simply another opportunity. That open space is useful because everybody reaches a point where they need to remember that their circumstances do not define everything they are entitled to hope for.

The word “outro” is important because this is not just another song placed randomly at the end. It closes the 14 track project. After the album has moved through ambition, identity, relationships, difficult experiences and collaborations with artists from different parts of the UK and Caribbean musical world, the final message turns towards reassurance.

You Deserve (Outro) also gives the project a more personal ending. Much of Marnz Malone’s writing has been connected to real experiences and reflection, and ending with a phrase about what a person deserves creates room to think about everything that came before. The album does not have to provide one perfect answer to every subject it raises.

There is a very ordinary situation behind the idea. People can become so used to surviving that they stop imagining anything better. Someone works, pays bills, handles responsibilities and keeps moving, but forgets to ask whether they deserve peace too. Sometimes encouragement is not about pretending life is easy. It is about remembering that hardship is not the only thing available.

The track is also produced by Trigga, Safiyah and Ryan Ramus, according to the album credits. That gives the closing record its own collaborative foundation while keeping the focus on the final message of the project.

As an ending, the thought is simple and personal. Whatever a listener has been carrying, there is value in remembering that difficult circumstances are not the full definition of a person’s life. Sometimes the final word an album leaves behind is simply a reminder to expect something better for yourself.
