Marnz Malone – Shoot Your Shot (ft. J Rellz)
Sometimes the biggest difference between wanting something and getting it is the courage to make the first move. Marnz Malone and J Rellz explore that idea on Shoot Your Shot.
The phrase is common now, but its meaning is still useful. Shooting your shot means taking a chance when you do not know whether the answer will be yes. It can apply to romance, work, business, music or any situation where waiting forever guarantees that nothing changes.
That uncertainty is what makes the idea interesting. People often spend time trying to predict how somebody will respond before they have even made the request. They worry about rejection, embarrassment or failure. Yet there are opportunities that only become possible after somebody decides to take that first step.
Shoot Your Shot is the longest track on I Wish I Could Sing, running for nearly six minutes. Its position as track thirteen also places it close to the end of the project, after several records that have already dealt with identity, ambition, relationships and personal progress. By this stage, the album has covered plenty of ground.
J Rellz joins Marnz on the collaboration, adding another voice to a title that naturally fits conversations about confidence and taking chances. The message does not have to be limited to romance either. A person applying for a job, asking for investment, approaching someone about an opportunity or finally sharing an idea is also shooting their shot.
There is a Nigerian lesson in that too. Many people wait for the perfect time before making a move, especially when they are afraid of hearing no. But no is still an answer, while never asking leaves the question hanging. Sometimes rejection hurts less than wondering what might have happened.
That makes the track’s central idea easy to understand. You cannot control every response, but you can control whether you take the chance. At some point, preparation has to become action, and that first move can change the direction of everything that follows.
