Marnz Malone – Get It How You Live (ft. Clavish)

The phrase has a very direct meaning. People have different circumstances, different opportunities and different pressures, so the route to survival or success will not look the same for everyone. What matters is figuring out how to move through your own situation without pretending somebody else’s path is yours.

Clavish is a natural collaborator for this kind of subject because his own music often deals with street life, money, ambition and the realities around them. On I Wish I Could Sing, the two artists share one of the project’s longer tracks, giving the record more room than several of the shorter cuts around it.

Get It How You Live also reflects something familiar in everyday Nigerian conversations, even though Marnz Malone is operating within a UK rap setting. People often say you have to know what works for your own situation. What works for someone with a stable job may not work for a person running a business. A strategy that helps one family may not suit another.

There is a difference between learning from people and copying their lives. The first can help you grow. The second can leave you frustrated because you are measuring your reality against circumstances you do not share. That is where the title has its strongest everyday meaning.

Placed after Who I Am, the track also keeps the album focused on identity, ambition and personal circumstances. The collaboration with Clavish adds another voice to the conversation without taking away from the central idea of finding a way through life on your own terms.

For anyone who has had to make something work with limited options, the message will feel familiar. Sometimes there is no perfect route. You look at what is in front of you, make the best decisions you can and keep moving.
