Danny S – Anthem EP

Promise

An anthem is a song a whole crowd can claim, and names a two-track EP after that idea with Anthem.

The word usually points to something sung together, whether it is a national song, a football chant or a chorus the congregation picks up without being asked. Nigerians know that feeling well. At a church programme, a wedding or a stadium, there is always a line the whole room knows, and hearing it rise from hundreds of voices at once is hard to forget.

What I find interesting is how the track list fits that name. The EP carries Oloun, a title that addresses the Lord directly in Yoruba, and Gbemilo, a plea to be carried through a heavy season. One is thanksgiving and the other is a request for help, so together they cover the two moods most worship settings move between. Both are short phrases that a crowd can repeat without a lyric sheet, which is exactly what makes a song an anthem.

I will not describe production details or lyrics I cannot confirm, but a release of only two songs feels focused, like a short service where nothing is wasted. There is a quiet confidence in that choice. Instead of padding the project, it lets each title carry its own weight, and the EP name tells you what the aim is before anyone presses play.

There is also a small contrast worth noticing. Anthems are usually loud and public, yet the two titles here are personal, one a name spoken in prayer and the other a quiet request. That mix of private feeling and shared singing is what worship at its best sounds like. By the time a friend asks you to send Anthem for their morning devotion, you will probably know they need both thanks and strength that day.

Anyone who loves worship in their mother tongue, or finds comfort in singing with others, will see themselves in this release. It suits Sunday mornings, midnight prayers and long drives when a simple song is all the company you need.
