Russ Millions – SKENG UNIT FREESTYLE Ft. Buni & Action

The word freestyle already tells you what to expect from the approach. It suggests bars delivered with confidence, less concern for a chorus and more focus on who can say the sharper line. In street rap, that format is where rappers show their pen, their nerve and their rhythm without much decoration.

Then there is the unit part. The title frames this as a team effort, with three rappers sharing one piece of music. Nigerians know that energy well, because it is the same spirit as a cypher at the back of a campus hostel or a group of friends taking turns on a beat. Everybody wants to leave an impression before the next person takes over.

Russ Millions is a London rapper, and having Buni and Action on the record turns it into a proper group moment on the project. Listeners often find a freestyle more revealing, because there is nowhere to hide. You either have the bars or you do not.

That is why records like SKENG UNIT FREESTYLE tend to spark small arguments about who won the verse. It is friendly competition, and that competition is half the fun of rap.
