S.N.Y. Record Label – Kalaman Ki Ft. Nazeer H. Mai Atamfa
S.N.Y. Record Label teamed up with Nazeer H. Mai Atamfa, to bring out a track titled Kalaman Ki.
Said in Hausa, Kalaman Ki points to “your words”, spoken to a woman. That is a simple idea, but anybody who has been in a relationship, or watched one from the outside, knows how much weight words carry. A promise made on Monday can still be quoted on Friday. A sweet sentence can calm a quarrel, and a careless one can start it again. The title already sets the listener thinking about what was said, who said it and whether it was meant.
Something else caught my attention. The act listed first is a record label, not a single singer, with Nazeer H. Mai Atamfa coming in as the featured voice. In Nigerian music that setup often means a team behind the scenes and a face or voice brought in to carry the message. It makes you wonder how the two sides share the story, whether one speaks while the other answers, or whether both are saying the same thing from different corners.
The subject is easy to relate to. Everybody has a person whose words they trust, and another person whose words they have learnt to doubt. Songs that speak directly to someone, using “you” and “your”, tend to land quickly because the listener quietly replaces that person with someone from their own life.
It is a record for the quiet moments when you replay a conversation in your head, still deciding how much of it to believe. Whoever has ever held on to a few sentences longer than they should have will understand what this one is about before it even ends.
